Happy Daughter’s Day, to my girl. We haven’t met you yet, but we are 99.9% positive, you are probably born already. You’re on the other side of the world, and we are just over here waiting, waiting, WAITING until we get to bring you home. Your daddy and I can’t stop smiling when we think about you – which means we smile a lot. Since we don’t have any photos of you, or even know WHO you are, we can’t participate in this “daughter’s day” celebration that is taking the social media world by storm today. Or so I thought. But sitting here, thinking about you, I decided to participate, in the way that makes sense for me.
I can’t wait to meet you. And I have plans for us, boy do I have plans. I have a couple of great moms myself (who are also ready to love on you with a capital “L”), and I want to be all the things to you that they are to me. For example.
I can’t wait to bake for you and celebrate your birthday. I was always allowed to pick my favorite meal for birthday dinner, and you, my sweet little angel, can have WHATEVER your little palette desires on the day we celebrate you. You want pizza and breadsticks? You got it. Mcdonalds? (cringe) We will cover you in a mountain of McNuggets. (But to be clear, if you’re REALLY my child you’ll request Chic-fil-a and all the dipping sauce!) If you want steak and rolls, your Aunt Liv knows all the best spots. A good burger? Chips and Salsa? Cube steak and mashed potatoes? Or maybe you’re straight up going to want dim sum, dumplings and noodles. Guess what, baby girl? I’ve already got an entire Pinterest board of those recipes, just waiting for your request.
Did you know I’m a fabulous party planner? (Ahem, if I do say so myself.) Just ask all our realtor friends. For the last three years, I’ve been experimenting on them with all the fun party themes. Truth be told, I just couldn’t wait any more. I’ve had Pinterest boards with more birthday party themes than you could ever dream up, and my mother’s heart was just itching to try them out. We’ve done Southern Brunch, an Around the World Progressive Dinner, a Mexican Fiesta and more Low Country Boils than I can shake a mudbug at. I’ve found the best invitations. I know where all the party stores are located. I am ready to throw you the absolute best birthday parties in the whole, wide, world. And don’t worry, I’ve saved all the best theme ideas for you – and I hope you have a million of your own, little sweet pea. Because they will, after all, be YOUR parties.
I haven’t baked much of anything since we closed the bakery down. It was a hard decision that I’ll tell you all about one day. I’ll say “Back when I used to own my bakery and cafe”… to which you’ll groan and roll your eyes because you’ve heard it all a thousand times before. But dear, little girl, my beloved little sweet roll – I’m ready to bake again. For you. You want cupcakes? Okay, I’ll make 24. A layer cake? You say how high, and I guarantee I have enough cake pans in storage to make all 10 of those layers. Mini cupcakes? Or how about one giant one? By now I’m just certain you’ve picked up on a theme here – you name it and on your birthday, I will absolutely bake it for you. In my perfect world, you’ll wanna help. Maybe lick a beater or two.
I am just so ready to have you here, dear daughter, and celebrate you in ALL THE WAYS.
I hope you heart Fall and all the crunchy walks through orange and pink leaves and trips to Kercher’s Orchard to pick out a pumpkin and taste some cider. Did you know there are corn mazes here? Let’s go visit them! Your daddy loves fall boat rides on Simonton Lake, all bundled up in sweatshirts and drinking hot chocolate. Your Grandma Honey can probably be convinced to bake some leaf shaped sugar cookies with you – yum! And Fall also means trips to the Farm. It’s glorious in the Fall. There are giant trucks and tractors driving in and out at all hours of the day and night. Your other Grandma always has some kind of caramel apple in the house. The lovely ladies of the farm bring warm, delicious dinners around to everyone who’s working (I know the boss, I think I can snag you a meal or two!). The air smells sweet like corn dust and you get to take rides in combines and semis with all the people who love you. The sunsets tend to be pretty spectacular too and I can’t wait to show it all to you. You will love it.
We are going to do so much stuff together. We will go to the beach house for Thanksgiving and hope the dog doesn’t steal the turkey – again. We will decorate for Christmas, and annoy your daddy with ALL the songs! We will build a snowman, have a snowball fight or make a snow fort. Unless of course you’re your daddys girl and hate the snow. In which case we will cozy up and ready books and play games in the warm indoors.
Oh, and the Disney movies. Oh, Oh, OH and the DISNEY PARKS. YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE IT SO, SO MUCH! Yes, I’m shouting because… DISNEY. Your daddy and I have explored every corner, of every park, just so we could be prepared for taking you there someday. Only took us something like 26 visits, but we are officially ready to expertly show you the most magical place on earth. But good luck trying to beat me on the Toy Story Game ride, I’m kind of an expert.
This post could go on and on and on. We’ve spent countless minutes dreaming up the things we would do with you one day!
My dear, sweet baby girl Miller. We can’t wait to do life with you and celebrate you in any way we can. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing today, please know we love you so much already. Happy Daughter’s Day.
Love,
Mom
