The Glittering Hour by Iona Grey will get you in your feels. I guarantee it. I don’t want to give away too much about the book, but I’ll try to give a brief summary.
The book jumps back and forth through time. It tells the story of one woman and her life as she became an adult. Then it jumps forward to the story of her 9 yr old daughter who has been left with her grandparents and a nanny, while mom is away on a journey. Mom send her daughter letters, telling the story of “how you came to be” (those are the flashbacks). It’s got a love story without being raunchy. There is heartbreak, friendship and an ending that will have you crying both sad and happy years. That is, if you’re a ‘crying over a book’ kinda person. I definitely am.
It immediately sucked me into the story from the first chapter. I think I finished the whole book within a couple days – which is quite a feat with two 4 month old babies. I stayed up until 1am at one point because it was just too good to put down. I will say that I basically guessed one of the major twists, early on in the book. However, that didn’t stop me from loving it or wanting to read on.
I joined Book of the Month Club in 2020 and I look forward to it every month. I actually received this book for free as my birthday gift, along with my normal monthly club book. One thing I love about BOTM is that they release 5 books each month that you can choose from. It helps keep things from being too overwhelming since there’s only 5 choices. You can skip a month very easily from the app. And my favorite feature is you can add on extra books as well! They book selection is pretty varied and they give really great descriptions. If you’d like to check it out, here’s my referral link for Book of the Month Club.
