Operation Christmas Drop
If you love feel-good stories, based off of real-life people, this is your ideal Christmas movie. Sweet and tropical, it’s the perfect family movie night flick this holiday season. It’s probably one of the least sappy movies of this genre, as the movie is focused on saving a military air base in the Pacific from a budget cutting politician. There’s a little bit of romance (duh) but not until the very end of the movie. It’s certainly not the focus. And if for nothing else, I recommend watching it for the gorgeous island scenery. But view beware, it’ll definitely have you googling “What islands are accepting American tourists”… 2020.
Midnight at the Magnolia
They grew up together. Two life-long friends with a radio program work to take their program national, yet also keep their respective significant others from being too jealous of their relationship. They’re then tasked with working to save the family jazz club from financial ruin. When it rains, it pours. You’ll have to tune in to see how the story unfolds, but it’s worth a watch. Very cute and limited cheese factor. My hubby was actually sort-of okay with this one – which is saying something.
The Knight Before Christmas
A little bit King Arthur, a splash of magic, and a lot of the movie Enchanted with a swirl of Kate and Leopold. Just because it’s been done before, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done again. This one was cute and sweet. It won’t be on my re-watch list anytime soon, but it’s worth a once-over.
The Holidate
So…Not to be “that girl” but I suppose I am. And unapologetically so. I started The Holidate but cannot recommend it. I was excited by the cast then immediately disappointed by the language and vulgarity. Definitely not for family consumption. Of course, since I didn’t watch the whole movie I can’t speak as to the plot or anything. But the vulgarity in the first 15 minutes was enough for me to give the Holidate a big fat NO. Thankfully, there are plenty of other Christmas movies on Netflix that are actually good, as evidenced above.
