Collagen Paleo (ish) cocoa bombs are here. I saw Regina George making hot cooca bombs so I had to make hot cooca bombs. Translation: All the cool kids are doing it. I did make a batch of regular cocoa bombs as gifts and stocking stuffers, but I wanted to share this recipe for Collagen Paleo (ish) Cocoa Bombs right away. I didn’t see any other recipes online that allowed me to indulge in the cocoa bomb fad, but stick to a paleo lifestyle. Necessity is the mother of invention, so I hit the kitchen and BOOM. Let’s do this.
Supplies needed: (I’ll link up some of the things I used below, and please see my note on the hot cocoa mix.)
Paleo friendly chocolate chips (like Lilys brand, or I used the new Costco version!)
*Paleo hot cocoa mix (lots of recipes online, try this one here at A Girl Worth Saving blog.)
Collagen powder
Round silicone mold
Sprinkles and edible glitter
Directions:
- Melt 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Be sure to stop every 30 seconds to stir the chocolate so it doesn’t burn.
- Spoon melted chocolate into the molds. This can take a little practice to get a system down. But make sure you get all the way to the top of the mold. Don’t be afraid to add a second coat after the first is dried.
- Let the chocolate harden in the freezer for 10 minutes. Look it over carefully and add another coat if needed and freeze again.
- Carefully remove the chocolate shells from the mold and set aside.
- Heat a plate in the microwave until it’s warm to the touch, or else heat a non-stick pan on the stove.
- Take a half shell and carefully place it, edge side down, on the hot pan to even out the edges. Only takes a second here!
- Fill the shell with a couple scoops of the cocoa powder, half a scoop of collagen and anything else you’d like to add.
- Take a second shell and repeat step 6, then place that shell on top of the one you filled, to make a sealed circle. Gently swipe your finger along the joined edge to remove any melted chocolate that squished out and seal up any tiny gaps that may be there.
- Next you can drizzle with more chocolate and sprinkle with your decor.
To serve, you just heat 10 ounces of your favorite milk, then drop in the cocoa bomb and stir. You may now sip your way to collagen paleo cocoa bomb bliss.
Notes:
- I used PaleoPro protein powder in ancient cacao flavor. It tastes just like hot chocolate to me, so I knew it would be perfect for this recipe, and it was. They even have a chocolate mint flavor right now so you could do a peppermint hot cocoa bomb! I really can’t say enough good things about this protein powder. It’s so, so good.
- For a traditional cocoa bomb, use a regular meltable chocolate (I used the wilton melts), use a regular hot cocoa mix and marshmallows and decorate with whatever you’d like!
There are tons of video tutorials online that show you how to do this, if you are visual. Just search “hot cocoa bomb”.
