If there ever was a year that eating cookies for breakfast in bed was acceptable, it’s 2020. I started off this pandemic on a health kick and am ending it with cookies. Call me weak, call me predictable… call me human. It’s been a year, y’all, and when my hubby brings me a cookie in bed, I’m going to eat it. ’nuff said.
Question. Have you heard the legend of the $250 cookie? Here’s the story I heard: Many years ago, a certain department store, with a classy restaurant, used to serve up a world-class chocolate chip cookie. The legend goes on to say that one day, a woman was overcome by this unbelievable cookie so she requested the chef share the recipe. I can only imagine her disappointment when she was informed that they would not share it. When she asked to purchase it, the legend says, she received a sly smile and a “Sure, for two fifty.” To which she responded like most cookie lovers would, “add it to my bill.”
As you can imagine, she was shocked when she received her charge card bill a few weeks later and saw that instead of being charged $2.50 like she assumed, she was charged TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY dollars. This story is about 100 years old, so add some inflation and you’ve got an approximately $3000 cookie recipe. SO. When the woman called the department store and asked for a refund, they refused. The woman vowed to share the recipe with any who wanted it, so the department store would never be able to charge $250 for it again because everyone would have it for free.
This legend has been tied to numerous department stores throughout history and it’s difficult to say if there is even an iota of truth to it. However, it’s a heck of a cookie recipe and worth every penny. True or not.
While I can’t force your S/O to bring you cookies in bed, I can at least arm you with the worlds best cookie recipe. I’m sharing it with 5 variations and a sixth version that is gluten and dairy free. One version is a twist on a cookie we used to make at my bakery that I called “The Farmgirl Cookie” and is my all-time favorite cookie in the entire world. It’s all yours. Just sign-up for my newsletter below and you’ll receive a free PDF download of each variation. Quick note, any version can be made gluten-free by subbing the white flour for Cup 4 Cup brand flour. Enjoy.
